Matchwell
0 to 1 Web & Mobile app for clinicians to onboard, submit credentials, and set their work preferences to get matched to ideal shifts at healthcare facilities in their area
Overview
Matchwell came to the our consulting team as an idea that would the disrupt the healthcare staffing industry by creating an online marketplace that matches job opportunities with travel nurses based on their preferences and qualifications.
MY Role
Associate UX Designer - I worked with a Senior UX Designer and client to define the user journey for both travel nurses and healthcare facility managers. My focus was designing the mobile onboarding and job search flow for nurses.
Design
As part of the Dayspring Partners consulting team, I contributed to the design of a mobile experience focused on clinician onboarding and job matching.
I created and delivered a prototype for user testing that outlined the entire onboarding process. This included capturing clinician work preferences, building a credentialing portfolio, matching clinicians with suitable facilities, and incorporating an in-app chat feature for communication with hiring managers.

Problem
Traditionally, healthcare professionals depend on staffing agencies to find shifts at healthcare facilities for them. Removing staffing agencies would reduce the fees that healthcare facilities have to pay, resulting in higher pay for clinicians.
Matchwell is an app that allows traveling healthcare workers to control their schedule and find work opportunities in their area based on their availability and qualifications. Healthcare facilities, in turn, would be able to fulfill staffing needs with pre-vetted and qualified healthcare workers, while saving on unnecessary fees, reducing overtime costs, and cutting down the cost-per-hire.

Once they’ve submitted their credentials and are approved to work, clinicians can scroll through their phone app to see and filter for openings as they are available.

Facilities that require shift workers can create shift openings or reach out directly to approved clinicians that are available.

Learnings
Our client had many ideas in addition to the MVP and it was helpful to discuss in advance so that we could design and code for flexibility to add those as new features in future iterations.
Design key features to be optimized for specific platforms. Clinicians will likely perform the job search process on mobile, and the facilities will be using their tablets or laptops. I collaborated with a Senior Designer who designed the Facilities experience and we each worked on translating the same information to be consumed by each user group.
Results
Matchwell was acquired by Medical Solutions in 2022 and now serves over 215 cities in 26 states, getting it closer to its goal of saving the healthcare industry $1 billion dollars.
